The original Step it Up was an initiative to encourage mental, social and physical health through reasonably accessible walks. Our current and immediately future parameters are:
- All members of U3A and other potential members are welcome.
- Walks are usually between two and three miles, sometimes less, rarely more!
- Walks are usually between one and two hours.
The accessibility and pace are crucial. Step it Up walks lie between Trundler's walks and the other more general walking groups (Explorer's and Trekker's).
All Step it Up walks are as accessible as possible and we never rush. Blethering, sauntering and meandering are integral to every time we go out, no matter what the walk is. Every walk attempts to be as inclusive of all members as possible.
We currently have a register of thirty or so walks, all in the north of our Isle.
We aim to have a walk every Friday, except the last on the last Friday of the month when it will be on the Thursday.
A few photos from this afternoon walk - highlights (apart from the walk) included performing goats and tea/coffee and cake at Columba 1400 afterwards.
Many thanks to Colin and Lorraine for organising the walk and reserving a table for us all at Columba 1400.

Cave of Gold walk, 18th July 2025
u3a members stepped up to the caves of gold, braving some foggy weather which cleared enough for some atmospheric views. Coffee and cakes were then enjoyed at Kilmuir village hall.
A few photo's from our walk on the 20th of June. The weather was gorgeous and the scenery was spectacular.

Harlosh walk 13th June 2025
The weather was overcast, Paul's dogs got "barred" but other than that it was lovely.

A few photos from today’s Step it Up walk.

Community Hall, the Braes 14th March 2025
Colin led the Step it Up group into the Braes hinterland to experience the stunning views to be found just off the beaten track. A short sharp hike up the woods along the Ollach river leads to wide open views of Ben Tianavaig, Glamaig and the mainland
Sligachan 14th February
Images for the Step it Up walk at Sligachan on the 14th of February. Another stunning day - will this weather ever end!
